Non-Mendelian Inheritance
(Polygenic, Codominance, Incomplete Dominance)

In certain species of Pine Tree short pine needles (S) are dominant over long pine needles (s). If a tree that is heterozygous is crossed with a tree that has long needles, what will be the genotype and phenotype of the offspring?

Non-Mendelian Inheritance
A Mendelian trait is one that is controlled by one gene that can be either Dominant or Recessive. Traits that are Polygenic are controlled by one or more gene. Some genes show Incomplete Dominance where neither gene is dominant or recessive, instead when both genes are present the trait is a blend of both. For example a red flower and a white flower combine to form a pink flower. In Co-Dominance both genes are dominant and when both genes are present both traits show in full strength. For example, A black dog and a white dog combine to have a black and white spotted dog.
