Atomic Structure Quiz and Bonding
Journal
1. How many protons, neutrons, and electrons does a Calcium (Ca) atom have?
2. Draw the structure of a Calcium atom, showing where the electrons are.

Bonding
Watch this animation of Ionic, Covalent, and Hydrogen Bonds and write down the following notes on each bond:
Ion: An atom with a positive or negative charge
Ionic Bond: One atom GIVES an electron to another atom, resulting in positively and negatively charged atoms (ions) that are attracted to each other.
Covalent Bond: A bond that forms when atoms SHARE electrons
Polar Covalent Bond: A covalent bond where the electrons are not shared equally, resulting partial positive and negative charges on the molecule.
Hydrogen Bond: When hydrogen forms bonds with Flourine (F), Nitrogen (N), or Oxygen (O)
The video below uses dogs to give another visual on ionic, covalent, and polar bonds.
