Finish Lab and Test ReviewJournal For an exothermic reaction: 1. Draw an energy graph of the reaction 2. Would energy be absorbed or released? 3. Would energy be a reactant or product? Finish the Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions Lab For the makeup assignment on this lab, see the previous post. Chemical Reactions Unit Test NEXT CLASS Download the test review below. This test review is extra credit.
Endothermic and Exothermic (Lab)Journal
Find your pink unit intro sheet. Look at #19 and 20. Tell me if the following are endothermic or exothermic:
If you missed this lab, complete the lab questions below as your makeup assignment: 1. Research what causes the reaction in reusable hand warmers (explain): 2. How are these hand warmers “reusable”? 3. Research how adding salt to ice water will affect the temperature of the water. Is this an endothermic or exothermic process? 4. Research the reaction of adding baking soda to vinegar. Is this an endothermic or exothermic reaction? Draw an energy graph of this reaction. Would you expect the temperature of this reaction to increase or decrease? Oxidation Reduction Reactions (Redox Reactions) and ElectrochemistryJournal 1. If solid zinc is added to Copper (II) Chloride, write the equation for the reaction that will happen. (hint: Zinc forms a 2+ ion) 2. Write the oxidation numbers for the elements on each side of the equation. 3. What element is oxidized? 4. What element is reduced? Watch the videos below for good tutorials on identifying elements that are oxidized and reduced in an oxidation/reduction reaction.
Oxidation Numbers/Redox reactionsJournal ACT Practice Question Oxidation Numbers Notes: Oxidation Number = Charge Rules for Determining Oxidation Number 1. Single elements = 0 2. Oxygen is almost always -2 3. Hydrogen is usually +1 4. The total charge of the compound equals zero unless otherwise stated (example NO3 -1 has a total charge of -1) For examples in calculating oxidation numbers, watch the video below. Finish Activity Series of Metals LabJournal
1. Is creativity important in science? 2. Why or why not? Finish and turn in your Activity Series of Metals Lab!! (Makeup lab linked in previous post) Reactivity of Metals LabJournal 1. How do you express creativity in your life? 2. Give an example of what you do to be creative. Reactivity Series of Metals Lab This lab was an investigation to determine which metals were most reactive. If you missed this lab, complete the makeup lab linked below.
Stoichiometry QuizNo Journal
SEE MRS. STANT TO MAKE UP THE STOICHIOMETRY QUIZ! Stoichiometry PracticeJournal ____B2O3 (s) + _____ H2O (l) → ____ B(OH)3 (s)
Finish Stoichiometry Practice Worksheet (Green) The Stoichiometry Practice worksheet is due next class. We will also have a TEST NEXT CLASS!! If you would like to check your work, download the key below. The key shows the proper set up for each problem. It does not give the entire answer. This way you can check to see if you are on the right track and setting up the problems correctly!
Stoichiometry - More Conversions!Journal Balance the following reaction and answer the questions Li + AlCl3 à LiCl + Al 1. What is the mass of 3 moles of Lithium chloride? 2. If the co-efficients represent moles, how many moles of aluminum chloride are needed to react with 3 moles of lithium for this reaction? Stoichiometry Download the Stoichiometry practice worksheet below. If you need more help with stoichiometry, watch the video below, review pages 72-76 in your book, and come in and see me!!
