Solutions
SOLUTIONS LAB WRITE UP IS DUE ON MONDAY :)
Journal
1. What is the concentration (Molarity) of a solution that contains 1.5 moles of Hot Cocoa mix in 650 mL of water? (Remember the formula Molarity (M) = moles/Liters; and 1 Liter=1000 mL)
2. How many grams of NaOH are needed to make 300 mL of a 3M solution?
Solutions
Use pages 166-170 to make sure you understand the following terms:
Concentrated Solution
Dilute Solution
Saturated Solution
Unsaturated Solution
Super Saturated Solution
Formula for diluting a solution:
Sometimes in chemistry we need to dilute a very concentrated solution. In order to make sure we get the desired final concentration we use the following formula:
(M1)(V1) = (M2)(V2)
M1 = Starting concentration
V1 = Starting volume
M2 = Ending concentration
V2 = Ending Volume
